Asian Kung-Fu Generation are one of the just about successful independent rock candy bands of Japan ("indie" standing for the genre, not the recording label), with their Weezer/punk colourful sound enjoying a quality that straight Weezer themselves scarce ever had on their side of the Pacific. AKFG began as a prison band posterior in 1996 in a cliquish university in Yokohama. It was the basic and, to date, the only major stick out for 3 of its members -- Masafumi Gotou (lead vocals and guitar), Takahiro Yamada (bass and vocals) and Kensuke Kita (guitar and vocals).

Fan Club - Asian Kung-Fu Generation | Songs, Reviews, Credits | AllMusic
Asian Kung-Fu Generation may very fit be the primo modern material banding to come out of Japan in the past 2000s, and certainly the well-nigh proportionate one. In a scene that is injured between a regular army of bands that reliably trudge the conventional paths of Anglo-American woman's doctor and a assemblage of experimenters, from blistering Mothers Temple to Zazen Boys, who sound unique but are often-times unlistenable, it's precise and refreshing to see a group that can combine the optimum of both approaches. Granted, Asian Kung-Fu Generation quiet wear their influences on their sleeves: the members cite Radiohead and Oasis as favorite bands, but those that should be mentioned first-year are Weezer, American pop-punkers, and possibly Teenage Fanclub, with pop-punk disposal AKFG the tempo and Weezer the melodocism and even some of those creation "woo-hoos." What's totally their own, though, is the sheer dimension of songwriting.
